Club outing in purton

ABOUT US

Port Talbot Camera Club meet every Thursday at 7.30pm in the Drama Hall of Sandfields Comprehensive School. We offer a warm and friendly atmosphere to all members new and old.

We are very proud of the varied programme of events we provide for our members, such as the regular talks and demonstrations from external speakers and club members, plus our monthly competitions that challenge and help us to learn new skills and improve our photography.

Prospective members are welcome to come along to our Thursday meetings for 4 weeks before paying membership. However, a small sub of £2.00 is payable each week to cover room hire. Full membership is required to enter competitions and costs £40.00 per year or part year. Refreshments are available on the night from our Tuck Shop.

So, why not come along to one of our meetings? We would be more than happy to see you. For more information about Port Talbot Camera Club, please email us using the “Contact” button on this web site.

OUR HISTORY

Gareth Martin AWPF CPAGB left his much loved Swansea Camera Club in December 2006 to realise a long held ambition to reform Port Talbot camera club. In January 2007, after securing a club venue at the Aberavon Green Stars and the support of Susan Martin as General Secretary, Gareth began gathering people who he believed would be able to get the club off the ground.

The New Port Talbot Camera Club remained at the Green Stars for the next ten months before moving to its current base in Sandfields Comprehensive School, arguably one of the best club venues in the Welsh Photographic Federation. Nine weeks after reforming, Port Talbot Camera Club came 3rd in the Salon Print Trophy, and a few weeks later came 3rd again in the Barrian Cup. During 2009 Port Talbot Camera Club won the Barrian Cup and a host of other club battles. Since then, individual club members have won several major trophies with their images.

We are a small club comprising 22 members who, nevertheless are able to compete with much larger clubs on the competition circuit. Recently we came 5th in the Ace of Clubs, and 2nd in the Gwynfa Pixels. Although our membership has changed over time and some of the original members have gone their separate ways, Port Talbot Camera Club will continue to grow in strength and number.
